The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s first exhibition, “LONG ISLAND’S LEGENDARY CLUB SCENE – 1960s–1980s” is a club crawl through the era. Long Islanders reminisce with replicas of some key clubs like My Father’s Place and Hammerheads where many misspent their youth listening to bands like the Good Rats, Twisted Sister, and legions of other rockers.
In the center of the exhibit stands a stage loaded with vintage equipment, including a drum kit (and cowbell) from Blue Öyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard and an organ played by Vanilla Fudge’s Mark Stein on the “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Also included are a pair of autographed sneakers from Run DMC, Billy Joel’s motorcycle, and Twisted Sister’s stage outfits, including the one worn on the cover of the Stay Hungry album (complete with the original bone he held for the photo shoot).
Museum lobby and exhibition entrance
The museum lobby features a juke box loaded with single from the bands represented in the exhibition as well as three costumes worn by Dee Snider, Jay Jay French and Mark ‘The Animal’ Mendoza of Twisted Sister.
BILLY JOEL'S MOTORCYLCE
This bike is known as the “peas & carrots” motorcycle.
CLUB SCENE POP CULTURE
The exhibition begins by calling attention to the many nostalgic trends and ephemera of the era including hair styles, clothing brands, cars, beer brands, tv shows – and even gas prices.
